Luxury Ski Holidays in Kitzbuhel AUSTRIA Kitzbuhel is a charming, traditional town with medieval centre that really has something of everything; stunning scenery, atmosphere and some very good skiing on large attractive varied slopes.
Many of these are linked to make up the renowned intermediate paradise of the Sella Ronda circuit — Selva Val Gardena being one of the largest along with Arabba, best for more challenging skiing and quick access to the Marmolada glacier, and Corvara which enjoys a great location from which to explore the different linked sections of this vast area. There are plenty of other villages in the area, some linked to the main lift system and others that are more isolated hidden gems worth exploring for their deserted slopes.
The whole area is also blessed with a huge number of top restaurants – another resort worth a specific mention is San Cassiano, at the heart of this gourmet hot spot and home to some notable hotels such as the wonderful Rosa Alpina. Dominated by its magnificent green-and-white bell tower and a glittering confection of grand 19th-century mansions, it is one of Italy’s most upmarket winter destinations. Located just a two-hour drive from Venice, it’s also one of the easiest resorts to access in the area making it extremely suitable for short breaks.
On top of the well groomed pistes, the off piste terrain and heli skiing on the Monte Rosa are the real draw. Champoluc at the western end of the area is the most substantial village, popular with families and those that want a little more going on. Gressoney, in the middle valley, is really a collection of three smaller villages, St Jean, La Trinite and Stafal that all have a raw alpine feel. This is the best place to stay to access the full extent of the mountain and is home to the excellent local guiding and heliskiing operation.
The perfect destination for a weekend of heliski and off-piste action.

Val d’Isere’s record of snowfall is exceptional. Whilst benefiting from the same Atlantic depressions as other French resorts, it often receives heavy falls of snow from the Mediterranean low pressures which dump their snow on the Italian Alps.

But families love Zermatt for more than just the splendid mountain scenery. The village of Zermatt is sizeable and bustling, while there are technically no cars, there are a plethora of electric shuttles, taxis and buses transporting skiers, workers and visitors. Here the language is Swiss German, but most everyone also speaks French, many speak English, and a few Italian. Signage includes all four, but trails signs are limited just numbers and sticks along the side of the prepared slopes , so be sure to keep a trail map on you at all times.
The legendary Matterhorn looms large above town, making for that perfect family photo, but that is not where the skiing takes place. Or you can ski across the Plateau Rosa to Italy and Cervinia — no passports required, just strong ski legs and preferably a clear blue sky day. Be sure to catch the lift back before the lifts close or you are SII — stuck in Italy. You can dine on Swiss cheese fondue at the Whymperstube, named for the first successful hiker in The ski slopes of Zermatt are long and lifts are open from early to late.
Zermatt boasts the longest ski season in the Alps from November to the start of May — with glacier skiing through summer. Christmas and Easter ski holidays in Zermatt are very popular with families, there is plenty of ski terrain and lifts to handle the peak season, although trails and ski schools can be busy.

Frequently Asked Questions Is this a dating holiday? The Ski Gathering does not offer “dating ski holidays” or “ski holidays for singles“, as such. Instead, we tend to think of our ski trips as shared chalet holidays for individual skiers and sociable solo travellers. Who will be there? You will be sharing the chalet with other independent travellers just like you, plus perhaps some groups of two or three skiers who already know each other but would like to mix with others.
